PRODUCTION DESIGNER / DESIGN CONSULTANT
JURASSIC WORLD: THE EXHIBITION

Jurassic World: The Experience is a live audience entertainment experience developed by third party vendor, Imagine Exhibitions, and based on Jurassic World IP.
After it’s initial opening in Melbourne, Australia, Meerdink Design was engaged by Universal Studios to conduct a global review of the experience and to guide it’s reimagination before its 2017 opening at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA.
The primary goals of Doug’s engagement were to:
-
Protect the design integrity of the Jurassic World brand
-
Redesign key environments and architectural elements
-
Provide oversight of the construction and installation of new elements
-
Consult on the design of interactives, displays, graphics, and greens work
-
Work with Imagine Exhibitions to maximize the quality of the experience and to align the exhibition with the foundations of Universal Studio’s Jurassic World IP
After a successful opening at the Franklin Institute, Doug and Meerdink Design were re-engaged to further elevate the experience for it’s opening at the Field Museum in Chicago, IL. The challenges of this new location meant that Jurassic World: The Experience needed to be housed a purpose-built, 16,500sf tent structure. This entirely new envelope presented new and unique opportunities, driving a number of fresh design solutions to ensure an immersive audience experience.
This collaboration between Meerdink Design, Universal Studios, and Imagine Exhibitions was a “win” for all parties, for the Jurassic World brand, and for the thousands of experience-goers of Jurassic World: The Experience.
