In late 2018, Doug was engaged by the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures to form and oversee the Core Design Team.

 

The mission of the Core Design Team was to collabrate with the AMMP curation and project coordination teams and develop concept art and broad visual tools for numerous gallery spaces.  In addition to working witth the AMMP team, Doug and the Core Design Team engaged with the project architect (Gensler), the Academy Branch Governors, and a multitude of vendors and consultants such as The Gallagher & Asssociates, Cinnabar, and Electronic.

 

Doug’s responsibilities as the head of the Core Design Team were to:

 

  • ​Oversee the Core Design Team—a collection of creative film art directors, set designers, illustrators, graphic artists, researchers, and asset managers.

  • Establish and cultivate a close collaboration with the Academy Curation Team—to define with them the objectives of each gallery and to build visual and narrative support around historic objects of film art.

  • Work in concert with the architect (Gensler), the Academy Museum Team, the primary exhibit construction firm (Cinnabar), and an array of vendors including those of  lighting design, audio/video design, human design, inclusion specialists, and augmented and blended reality consultants.

  • Present weekly design reviews of Core Design Team work to the Academy Museum CEO and his team of curators and administrators

  • Liais with Academy Branch Governors to ensure that the museum’s exhibits would align with the desired representation of each branch’s members

  • Oversee the work of Cinnabar, the exhibit construction company hired to construct full-scale “proof-of-concept” physical mock-ups of each gallery space based on the work of the Core Design Team.

 

 

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures opened on September 30, 2021.
